[Legal Notice] Important updates to Google Maps Platform Data Protection Terms effective immediately

by thaterrormessage » Fri Sep 18, 2020 8:32 am

Hello Google Maps Platform Customer,

As a result of the recent Court of Justice of the European Union ruling on data transfers, invalidating the Privacy Shield, Google will be moving to Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) for transfers of personal data collected or generated from the use of Google Maps Platform services out of the Europe Economic Area, Switzerland, and the UK.

We have therefore updated our existing Controller-Controller Data Protection Terms to add the relevant SCCs as adopted by the European Commission. If the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation or equivalent Swiss or UK legislation (collectively, the GDPR) applies to your use of our services, then the SCCs will apply automatically under the updated terms.

We also updated our terms to include Addendums covering the recently enacted California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and Brazil’s soon-to-be-effective Lei Geral de Proteção de Dados (LGPD) to the extent these laws apply to your use of our services.

We are making these updates solely to address data protection compliance. These updates do not give Google additional rights over any data. These updated terms apply from today.

What do I need to do?

No action is required on your part to accept the updated terms.
